Policy program internship
The Organic Farming Research Foundation
offers part-time policy internship positions on an ongoing basis.
This position provide organizing, research and administrative support for our policy program, particularly in development of our grassroots advocacy work. Interns may arrange to receive academic credit in exchange
for 10-20 hours of work per week.
Graduate level interns may arrange
to focus on an independent research project that correlates with
their academic work and our policy work.
Policy interns report to the Policy Organizer and the Senior Policy Analyst.
Areas of Focus
Research/Writing
- Work with Policy organizer to develop materials that assist us in campaign organizing and strategizing.
- Work with Policy team to develop content for website and other written materials as appropriate.
- Help identify new state, local, and regional organizations that have networks of organic and sustainable farmers, particularly in target states and keep their contact info current on database and website.
- Identify opportunities to submit articles and ads in grower groups’ newsletters.
- Other research as needed.
Advocacy/Outreach
- Update list of contacts useful for growers participating in federal programs which support organic farming.
- Phone-banking in states and congressional districts being targeted for specific campaigns.
- Initiating contact to regional, state, or local grassroots organizations and organic grower groups.
- Other outreach as needed.
Administrative
- Updating and entering new contacts into database.
- Updating conference calendar on web and periodically updating OFRF staff about conference opportunities.
- Helping to keep current our list of grassroots and organic grower organizations.
- Clerical and other administrative tasks (filing, faxing, photocopying, answering phones) as needed.
Qualifications Needed
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience working in a professional office environment
- Ability to work independently
- Interest in political advocacy and sustainable agriculture
- Some knowledge of the political process
- Sense of humor
