Special Edition SCOAR Bulletin

June 30, 2009

SCOAR is a collaboration of producers and scientists whose mission is to plan and promote research and information exchange for understanding and improving organic agricultural systems.

Corrected Web Link: USDA Funds Available
to Study Water Quality in Organic Agriculture

Since the June 19 release of the special SCOAR bulletin announcing the availability of funds for the Integrated Organic and Water Quality Program (IOWP), USDA has changed the web link to the Request for Applications. The new link is http://www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/rfas/pdfs/09_iwop.pdf.

The IOWP’s purpose is to explore the changes in water quality and/or water quantity associated with certified organic farming practices. Projects must integrate research, education, and extension. Up to $220,000 per year may be requested for projects 1-3 years in duration. Proposals are due July 24, 2009.

Proposals are being solicited in the following three areas:

  1. The impact of organic cropping systems on water quality and/or quantity,

  2. The impact of organic animal production systems on water quality and/or quantity, and

  3. The impact of mixed use (crop and animal production systems) on water quality and/or quantity.

Please consult the full Request for Applications for details on applying.

This is a Special Edition in a series of occasional bulletins providing selected information on organic research programs, positions, funding, and reports, as well as news about SCOAR itself. Original items may be reproduced with attribution to OFRF. These reports are sent via email to registered SCOAR participants.
