I was raised on a family farm my parents started in 1975. The entire time of my childhood I was immersed in the dairy industry and went on to participate in 4-H and FFA where I developed a real passion for the dairy industry. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where I received a degree in Animal Science with an emphasis on dairy production, I decided to pursue my passion of dairy farming. Since I was the only one of four siblings to come home and farm, I have had the unique experience of becoming the first to transition our farming operation to organic production. We made the transition to organic production in 2009 as the market was diving in the dairy industry. We fought through several tough years where I decided that my knowledge of business and finance was going to be pivotal in future successes for my business. Therefore, I chose to pursue a master’s degree in business administration to give me a better background in business management. This has allowed me to further analyze and identify where I could make my operation a better, more profitable business. I am fully aware of the difficulties that farmers face and the unique opportunities that they must address to make their operations successful as they transition to organic production. I look forward to helping to direct the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) to greater success for the benefit of the people and food supply in the world. As a research and policy organization I feel that the OFRF is setting up farmers for success with their dedicated work and look forward to contributing to the overall success of the organization.
