ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
The mission of the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) is to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. OFRF envisions a future where organic farming is the leading form of agriculture. Our goal is to broaden access to and involvement in our programs, working toward greater equity in our food and agriculture systems overall. Since its founding in 1990, OFRF has sponsored organic farming research, education, and outreach to support organic and transitioning farmers across North America. This work is complemented by efforts to share our findings with policymakers, agricultural institutions, and federal agencies, in support of broader change and advancement of the organic sector.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Organic Farming Research Foundation is seeking a temporary remote intern to work an average of 10-15 hours per week for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (target start date approx. 6/1/26). This opportunity is intended to support a student or recent graduate with some professional experience who is interested in pursuing a career pathway in the organic industry through a paid internship.
The ideal Social Media & Engagement Intern will have some skills in posting to and engaging on social media (SM) platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This position will support the Communications Department in:
- Conducting an audit of our existing SM, analyzing strengths/weaknesses/opportunities to develop our first official SM strategy plan
- Pilot a video project that repurposes our longer-form videos into bite-sized SM videos (planning, posting and evaluating)
- Engage with our content and partners’ content to draft and schedule SM content for our programs
- Other relevant tasks as assigned by your supervisor. This internship may be tailored to suit the candidate’s background and interests.
This is a remote, independent role. We meet once a week, and we expect candidates who come prepared, communicate proactively when questions or roadblocks come up, and take ownership of their projects from start to finish. The right person for this role is genuinely curious about this work and motivated by doing it well.
DESIRED SKILLS
- 1-3 years of professional experience in an office/academic environment and some previous social media experience.
- Excellent writing skills with a clear, authentic voice across different formats and audiences.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to ask questions proactively and flag issues early.
- Strong understanding of SM platforms (how they work, how to post, etc.).
- Engaged with the current trends and new features of SM platforms.
- Analytical-minded; able to analyze SM data and draw conclusions.
- Video basics, including how to construct a Reel for Instagram, from start to publishing.
- Basic knowledge in food systems and an interest in understanding agriculture and the organic industry are preferred.
COMPENSATION and BENEFITS
Starting pay is $18-$22 per hour, not to exceed a total of 150 hours. Interns are not eligible for benefits.
