ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The mission of the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) is to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. OFRF envisions a future where organic farming is the leading form of agriculture. Since its founding in 1990, OFRF has sponsored organic farming research, education, and outreach to support organic and transitioning farmers across North America. This work is complemented by efforts to share our findings with policymakers, agricultural institutions, and federal agencies to support broader change and advance the organic sector.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Organic Farming Research Foundation is seeking a temporary, part-time Operations Assistant to work an average of 5-15 hours per week for Summer 2026 (target start date is mid-June 2026). The Operations Assistant will provide in-person administrative support out of our downtown Santa Cruz, CA office. Minimum 1-2 days per week in the office is required. This position will report to the Deputy Director and may be tailored to suit the candidate’s background and interests.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for general administrative support and may assist with… 

  • Database (Virtuous CRM+) data entry and list maintenance
  • Monitor and process incoming mail and deposits
  • Package and ship printed materials to staff, donors, and partners
  • Run errands to the post office, office supply store, or print-house
  • Completing forms and maintaining files (hardcopy and electronic) 
  • Digitization, scanning hardcopy files, photos, and other media  
  • Maintain the office and supplies inventory
  • General bookkeeping and administrative record-keeping tasks  
  • Other related duties as assigned by your supervisor

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALITIES

  • Previous experience working in administration, operations, or nonprofits
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  • Dependable and responsible with attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Direct experience with office equipment and MAC or PC computer systems 
  • Direct CRM experience preferred, data management experience a plus
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with documents and files
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Interest in the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS 

Starting pay is $20 per hour, depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.
